first of all THE BARCLAYS CENTER

gr8 place, our seats were p awesome (click this, insert section 12, row 13 at the bottom. that actually looks much further away than it did in person)

so we got there early, chilled out, walked around, i got a shirt (souvenirs!!!!! important) and finally went back when it seemed like they were about to start

i was texting/messaging people while i was there because i promised i would (~liveblogs) and that was the only way i remembered most of what they played but ginny showed me this site where you could find every setlist of p much every show and just god BLESS

they played SO MANY OF THEIR OLD SONGS? more than i expected i was just (ﾉ> ◇ <)ﾉ♪

the onstage banter KILLED ME: like matt and aaron PLS, and before sorrow they decided to try and be funny like “we know this song better than any of our other songs (/PLS/ I KNOW I WAS THERE STILL CAN’T BELIEVE THAT /SCREAMS/) and before i need my girl matt said something like “this song doesn’t have any clever metaphors or anything it’s just about me missing my wife” like DON’T FUCKING LOOK AT ME. plus right before ANNIE CLARK CAME ON STAGE TO PERFORM THIS IS THE LAST TIME WITH THEM1?!!!?!?!?!?!? they said “we have a friend who just got off a plane we’d like to invite annie clark, st vincent, up to come sing with us. …she flew the plane too, herself! crazy, she, she and john travolta were racing airplanes to get here! it’s nice to see you.” (ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING I WILL mURDER)

so anyway, they were playing and i sang along to every song and haven’t sent any videos out to anyone because you can hear my voice on all of them? I DIDN’T THINK IT WAS THAT LOUD i’m so embarrassed i’m fucking tone-deaf but like WHATEVER HOW COULD I NOT and then it seemed like it was over and my sister started to get up and i was like no wait, they’re going to do an encore (because @ shows like this that is what you DO yk)

what i didn’t know is that the encore was going to be five songs???? so they played the first four and looked like they were about to walk off the stage and everyone started getting up about to go and matt comes back out like “wait we have a little more time we’re going to play one last song for you” and then BOOM ACOUSTIC VANDERLYLE????? i. lost. it. (not really but metaphorically okay i was just sOARING) just THE ENTIRE ARENA SANG TOGETHER AND THE ONLY INSTRUMENTS WERE LIKE TWO ACOUSTIC GUITARS AND IT WAS THE MOST MAGICAL MOMENT EVER

my sister and i had wine on the way there in honor of matt and i really wish i had drank closer to the concert so i could like DEAL with the fact that all of this was happening in front of me but wow. when they started about today (AND PLAYED IT LIKE THE WHITE SESSIONS VERSION????? LIKE ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF LIKE ALL TIME????) i literally shook the entire time i just

basically it was incredible and amazing and i wish i had more friends closer to me who actually enjoyed it b/c i went with my sister who could care less but i had a good time and i bought her concert ticket and her train ticket AND DINNER so she was not allowed to complain

also while i was there i found out vampire weekend is performing there sept 20th and my sister’s birthday is the 19th so maybe i can come home for her birthday weekend and go see them there??????? my goal this summer is to make everyone i know fall in love with modern vampires of the city. i know i can’t make everyone fall in love with the national’s album (which is BULLSHIT BY THE WAY LIKE HOW CAN YOU NOT i mean i try and respect people’s music tastes buT) but if you’re not into mvotc????????? (⊙_☉)

I am over this confessional culture, where the more vulnerable you make yourself the more credibility you are considered to have, and concepts of “community” that have no significance to my life.

This is why there are and will continue to be less and less personal writings on this blog, less focus on the things that I feel and think and more focus on the things that I do. But this is something that I wanted to say.
